Cha no yu Woodblock Series - Toshikata Mizuno


The fundamental spirit of the tea ceremony is exemplified in the expression of harmony, reverence, purity and tranquility. This series shows the full course (15 scenes) of Cha no yu captured in woodblock prints by Toshikata Mizuno (1866-1903). Toshikata was born as Mizuno Kumejiro in Tokyo. When he was 13 years old, his father sent him to the printmaking school of Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. He was also apprenticed to a ceramic painter. And later he was instructed in traditional Japanese painting by Shibata Hoshu and Watanabe Seiti.
